who are responsible for Encounter series. Gabe on making models and instructing volunteers, myself on script, story, filming and Jeremy on postproduction and editing.
Creative thinking room
Everything starts with imagination, I spent countless hours in my shed thinking, writing and designing.
To all 200 volunteers that worked each day making all the characters and landscapes.
The long process
Each episode is 4-7 min long. It took us about a week to produce one minute of footage.
All from polystyrene..
Stop motion film requires the making of every landscape and character. Building this set took around one year all made from polystyrene...
The scale of everything was about 1:32. These buildings were around 1-2 metres high.
Encounter series is a collection of more then 140 000 pictures
was the key ingredient when it came to setting up these type of scenes, thanks to all who helped!
Walking at the right pace...
To have a character walk at the right pace for his size was 2 millimetres
There are 20 stories from the Old Testament
There are 15 stories from the Gospels.
There are 10 stories from the New Testament.
All up 45...
Originally I was only going to make 12 Episodes but we got carried away and made 45.
Make them cute
We tried using round heads but square one's were more loveable and way easier to make.
I could feel Jesus there...
There were times when I was photographing and the presence of Jesus would fill the room. Once a beautiful fragrance hovered directly over the character of Jesus...Go figure!
We built 5 different Arks
Did you know it took Noah about 100 years to build the ark. It only took us a week to make 5 arks ...
We gave the devil multiple character images to emphasise his deceptive nature.
Same universal King of Lies
Satan struck out three times, no home run for evil.
My wooden friends
It was very rewarding watching these little figures come to life. Some times I felt like I knew some of them.
On Stage, lights, Camera, Action
This is one of my favourite model stages it just looked so cool ...
Good news & Bad news
Rejecting Jesus free gift of life is a tricky reality to present. We don't want to frighten kids about hell, because that doesn't bring freedom in Christ, and thats the good news. But There are always consequences for all our actions.
Story in contect
Through the making of this series of films my understanding of Bible history was stretched and filled in. Context brings truth to life!
A late arrival....
The wise men are not in the biblical Christmas scene. In fact There is no Christmas as we know it. Christmas is a cultural adaption to highlight the coming of the saviour. Any way enjoy the film....
The age of the outpouring...
Pentecost...the age of preaching the gospel and planting churches begins and continues today.
Revelation was a tricky one to do as their are so many schools of thought. So we stuck with the main truths and tried not place things in contentious orders.
Jell and body soap
For water we used jell, as its thickness held things in position and it didn't react and move around.
Re-reading your bible...
Making this film has made me re-read my bible and its been a wonderful journey, I hope you enjoy this very big complex story told in a short simple way...
